Our Story

Welcome to Great Southern Seafoods

A family-owned business steeped in tradition. Our roots run deep in the fishing industry, bringing over 35 years of expertise. and innovation. Our journey in the seafood industry spans over three generations, beginning in Greece then Ceduna, South Australia and finding our new home in Albany since 2004.

We’ve transformed the local seafood supply chain within Western Australia by processing in our state-of-the-art facility in Albany. This advancement has enabled local commercial fishermen to maximize their catch without being constrained by logistics, previously limited to fortnightly truck pickups from Western Australia back to South Australia.

At Great Southern Seafoods, we believe in the power of community engagement and the positive impact it can have on families and individuals. This belief is why we proudly sponsor local sporting clubs. We understand that sports are more than just games; they are avenues for bringing people together, fostering a sense of community, and promoting healthy, active lifestyles. By supporting these clubs, we're not just investing in sports; we're investing in the heart and spirit of our community, reinforcing the bonds that make it strong and resilient.

Retail Excellence:
Our retail shop is a treasure trove of premium quality, fresh and frozen seafood, meticulously sourced from the diverse regions of Western Australia. Our ever-changing supply is a testament to the natural bounty of our waters, ensuring a unique selection for our customers each day.

Processing:
At the heart of our operations is our processing factory, operational seven days a week. It’s here that we support the commercial fishing industry, handling a variety of species. Filleting is an acquired skill perfected over many years to ensure the highest quality is produced. We maintain strict temperature control and food safety standards from unloading, during processing and until it reaches the end consumer.

Commitment to Sustainability
We pride ourselves on advocating and implementing sustainable practices in the seafood industry. Our commitment is twofold: preserving Western Australia’s unique marine environment and supporting local fishermen and the community.

Sustainable Practices: Western Australia sets a global example in sustainable fisheries management. By embracing these practices, we contribute to a thriving, sustainable marine ecosystem, ensuring seafood availability for future generations.

Local Impact: With the Australian wild-catch production representing just a small fraction of global seafood production, we focus on channelling over 90% of our finfish catch back into the local Western Australian market. This approach not only supports the local economy but also creates job opportunities.

  • We actively reduce plastic usage by offering fully compostable bags for fresh fish in our retail shop.

  • Our processing plant utilizes collected rainwater, minimizing our environmental footprint.

  • Solar energy powers our operations, reducing our dependence on non-renewable energy sources.

  • We prioritize low-emission vehicles in our fleet to further reduce our carbon footprint.
